    > FinerKnives (finerknives.nl) is a one-person hand-forging workshop in Groningen, Netherlands, run by Floris. Every knife is forged by hand using traditional coal fire and hammer techniques — no CNC, no outsourcing. Floris is a member of the Dutch Knife Artisans community.

    - [Commission a Knife](https://www.finerknives.nl/commission-a-knife): Order a bespoke knife to your exact specifications — steel type, blade profile, handle material, blade finish, and bolster. Budget ranges from €150 (simple petty) to €1,200+ (premium damascus sets). Lead time is typically 3–6 months.
    
    ## Steels
    
    80CrV2 high carbon steel, 15N20 (for san mai and go-mai cladding), Damascus (ladder pattern, random pattern), Wrought Iron cladding with 80CrV2 core, Nitro-B stainless. All knives are hardened to 62 HRC.
    
    ## Handle Materials
    
    Woods: Teak, Padouk, Pao Rosa, Purple Heart, Olive Wood, Zebrano, Walnut, Spalted Birch, African Blackwood, Oak. Other: Buffalo Horn, mixed/contrasting woods.
    
    ## Handle Styles
    
    Japanese wa-handle (octagonal) or Western full-tang riveted. Bolster options: Copper, Brass, Wrought Iron.
