A walnut cracker forged by hand in Groningen from steel. Two arms are joined by a rivet, a pin that holds them together and lets them pivot. The serrated jaws, with a toothed grip, sit close to the pivot, so a squeeze of your hand puts a lot of force on the shell. The finish is blackened, a dark layer on the steel. Put the nut between the jaws and squeeze.
Care
Wipe clean with a cloth. Walnut oil or mineral oil on the steel keeps rust away.
